Our management team of experienced private and commercial bankers has the vision to lead Darien Rowayton Bank and establish new directions in community banking. They provide the leadership to develop meaningful products, set standards for service and focus on building customer relationships that are the heart of our offering.

We are also proud to be supported by a group of founders and directors with strong roots in Darien, Rowayton and neighboring towns. As established members of the community, they are committed to the bank’s vitality and success and have been instrumental in providing guidance into the bank’s formation and product offerings.


Executive Officers

John M. Bowes
Chairman & Chief Executive Officer

John M. Bowes is Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Darien Rowayton Bank,  serves as Chief Executive Officer and is the primary visionary behind the bank’s creation. An experienced financial services executive, he is the former President and CEO of Lyon Credit Corporation, a subsidiary of Credit Lyonnais that was created to provide financing and services to mid-sized companies in the U.S. under a plan developed by Mr. Bowes. Prior to creating Lyon Credit Corporation, Mr. Bowes was President and CEO of Chrysler Capital Corporation, a $7 billion diversified financial services subsidiary of the Chrysler Corporation. He served as a board member of Chrysler Financial Corporation, a $40 billion financial services company. Mr. Bowes has also held senior positions at E.F. Hutton Credit Corporation (Chrysler Capital’s predecessor) and at General Electric Capital Corporation.

Since 2000, Mr. Bowes has been a member of the Darien High School Building Committee. The Committee was responsible for coordinating the design and construction of the town’s new high school. Mr. Bowes and his wife, Chris, have been Darien residents for 18 years.

 

Robert E. O’Brien, Jr.
Executive Vice President & Chief Administrative Officer

Robert E. O’Brien, Jr. is Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of the bank.  He has over 30 years of banking experience in positions of increasing responsibility. Mr. O’Brien began his career at Putnam Trust Company. He ultimately rose to Senior Vice President with responsibility for private lending, the loan division and the mortgage division. Mr. O’Brien was most recently employed as Senior Vice President – Operations of Greenwich Bank & Trust Company, a de novo institution formed in 1997. He worked with the originating team to launch this new bank and was integral in implementing the loan, compliance and credit policies. He also helped develop and was responsible for the bank’s internal systems, including its IT infrastructure.

Mr. O’Brien is a member of the Harpoon Club of Greenwich, Trustee and Past Commodore of The Greenwich Boat and Yacht Club, Director and Past President of the Greenwich Kiwanis Club, and Advancement Chairman for the Greenwich Council, Boy Scouts of America. He is a resident of Old Greenwich.

 

Barbara Garrett

Vice President & Controller

Barbara Garrett is Vice President and Controller of the bank. Ms. Garrett is a seasoned financial professional with a broad range of accounting, auditing and leadership experience. Ms. Garrett was a  Senior Auditor for Price Waterhouse; Vice President and Controller at USGI/Huntoon Hastings Capital Corp., a mortgage banking firm in Darien and Norwalk; and most recently worked for Computerx Pharmacy Inc. in Stratford. She received her MBA from the Kellogg School at Northwestern University, and holds a CPA certification in Illinois and Connecticut.

Ms. Garrett has served in various volunteer positions for Special Olympics, Heart-To-Heart, Hand-In-Hand, and Literacy Volunteers of America. Originally a resident of Norwalk, where she attended Tracey school, she now lives in Stratford, Connecticut with her husband and two sons.

Founders and Directors

Robert M. Baylis, Founder, is a retired Vice Chairman of CS First Boston and former Chairman and CEO of CSFB (Pacific). Mr. Baylis is a director of New York Life Insurance Company, Host Marriott Corporation, Covance Inc., Gildan Activewear, Inc., and PartnerRe Ltd. He is also an overseer of the University of Pennsylvania Museum, a trustee of the Rubin Museum of Art, and a director of The International Forum, an executive education program of the Wharton School. Mr. Baylis is also a member of the Advisory Council of the Economics Department of Princeton University and was formerly a trustee of Teachers College. Locally, he is a former trustee of the YMCA of Darien and the Darien Historical Society. Mr. Baylis is a long time resident of Darien.

Charlotte Lyeth Burton, Director, is Chairman of Longyear Realty Corporation, a family-owned corporation that holds land, timber and mineral interests in northern Michigan and Minnesota. She is also a member of the boards of Carroll Paul Forest, Inc., Sargent Mining, LLC, Keewatin Mining, LLC, Share Properties Management Committee, and Minnesota Steel Industries, LLC. Ms. Burton is the former Managing Director of Shakespeare on the Sound, which produces an annual summer Shakespeare festival in Rowayton as a community event. Previously, she was Director of Development for The Maritime Center in Norwalk and The New York Botanical Garden in Bronx, NY. Ms. Burton, and her husband, Bruce Robert Burton, are residents of Rowayton.

David M. Campbell, Founder, is President and CEO of Rings End, Inc., a Darien business founded by his family. Rings End is a building materials distributor and retailer with six locations in Connecticut and one location in New York. Mr. Campbell is a board member of Darien Library, Darien Historical Society, Noroton Yacht Club, and Family Centers in Greenwich. He also serves as a member of the Building Committee for the new Darien High School. Mr. Campbell and his family are long-time residents of Darien.

James C. Coley II, Founder, is President and CEO of Proctor Investment Managers, LLC, an asset management company that partners, acquires and manages boutique investment advisors with complementary investment strategies. Prior to Proctor, he was a Principal at Chapman, Downing & Keesee, an asset management advisory firm. Mr. Coley was formerly Managing Director and head of institutional fixed income sales for the Americas at Deutsche Bank. Mr. Coley spent 16 years at Morgan Stanley in a variety of management positions, most recently as Managing Director and head of Rate Sales and Product Management. Mr. Coley is a head coach in the Darien Junior Football League and serves on their Board as Treasurer and COO. He has also coached junior soccer, basketball and hockey teams. Mr. Coley is a resident of Darien.

Kevin P. Conroy, Founder, is the owner of three businesses and commercial property in Rowayton. Mr. Conroy purchased Rowayton Seafood in 1978 and transformed it from a seasonal business to a year-round seafood market. He opened The Restaurant at Rowayton Seafood, the town’s only seafood restaurant, in 1996. In 1999, Mr. Conroy completed the renovation of the Rowayton Country Market, which is the oldest continually running general store in Connecticut. Mr. Conroy serves on the board of the Rowayton Civic Association. He is a member of the Norwalk Chamber of Commerce and the Connecticut Business Industry Association. He sponsors the area’s youth baseball teams, founded a youth center called Underground with his wife, Barbara, and is a supporter of Shakespeare on the Sound. Mr. Conroy is a resident of Rowayton.

Daniel Dolcetti, Founder, is the former owner and operator of Dolcetti’s Restaurant in Darien and is currently an officer of Bang Group, a music publishing company. Previously, he was employed by Xerox Corporation for 16 years in a variety of executive positions, including Vice President and North East Region Manager for Administration. Mr. Dolcetti, who has a finance and insurance background, was also affiliated with Home Insurance. In Darien, he is past Chairman of the Republican Town Committee and has been active in civic activities as a Sponsor of Darien Little League Baseball, Youth Hockey and Junior Football. He is also a founding member of the Darien Arts Council and Nature Center. Mr. Dolcetti is a third-generation resident of Darien.

Phillip Dolcetti, Founder, is a principal in Dolcetti, Inc. and Dolmar Properties, companies that own interests in several real estate properties throughout Darien. He is also owner and President of Bang Group, a music publishing company. Previously, Mr. Dolcetti was employed by Xerox Corporation in a variety of management positions, including National Account Manager. He was also employed at Prentice-Hall as Tax Director and was responsible for launching a computerized tax service called Digitax. Locally, Mr. Dolcetti has served on the Town RTM, is a member of the Republican Club and is a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He is a third-generation resident of Darien.

Robert A. Ferreira, Director, is the Chief Financial Officer of CouponBug, LLC, an integrated marketing services company. He is an executive with broad strategic and general management experience as well as substantial consulting experience. Previously, Mr. Ferreira held senior executive positions with the specialty retailer Saks Fifth Avenue and The Hartford Financial Services Group, a Fortune 50 financial services company. Earlier in his career, Mr. Ferreira had extensive financial experience in debt markets and commercial lending at Shearson Lehman Brothers and The Bank of New York. He serves on the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement of Southwest New England. Mr. Ferreira lives in West Hartford.

Christine Hamilton-Hall, DMD, MD, Director, operates the Aesthetic & Maxillofacial Surgery Center of Darien, providing cosmetic and reconstructive surgery to her patients. Dr. Hamilton-Hall has served as a “Medical Missionary” for Project Hope -- providing cleft palate, head and neck cancer surgery in Shanghai, China -- and for Healing the Children -- providing cleft lip and palate surgery in Antigua, Guatemala. She founded Darien Cares, which offers maxillofacial and reconstructive care to uninsured children and young adults in Darien and neighboring communities. She has contributed her time and professional services to support the YWCA, Red Cross, Darien Community Association and Pear Tree Point School. Dr. Hamilton-Hall is a Darien resident.

Rodgers L. Harper, Director, has over 30 years of diverse business experience in management consulting, general management and finance. He currently works with the Bicknell Group, a merger and acquisition advisory firm and The Harper Company, a management consulting firm, supporting the development and growth of new ventures. Previously, Mr. Harper was a partner of First Manhattan Consulting Group, a financial services industry consultancy, where for 20 years he focused on strategy, organization, marketing and productivity. Previously, Mr. Harper was a consultant at Booz Allen and Hamilton, Director of Administration of the Hathaway Patch Division of Warnaco, COO of Atlantic Sails and Senior Investment Analyst at New England Life. He is the volunteer treasurer and a board member of the New Canaan Chapter of the American Red Cross and is on the board of Harvard Business School Community Partners of Connecticut. Former Darien residents, Rodgers and his wife Nancy, now live in New Canaan.

Robert F. Harrel, Jr., Director, served as Darien’s First Selectman from 1997 until 2003. Mr. Harrel was a member of the Darien RTM for 16 years and has served on several committees and commissions both for the Town and the State of Connecticut. Before serving the Town as First Selectman, Mr. Harrel was employed by J. M. Layton Insurance as Executive Vice President of Insurance Operations. Mr. Harrel served for 12 years on the Darien Advisory Board of Directors for the Union Trust Bank. He is a past President of the Darien Chamber of Commerce, a co-founder of the Darien Nature Center, a past President and Chairman of the Darien United Way and an avid supporter of the Darien and New Canaan Cub, Boy and Explorer Scouts organizations. Mr. Harrel is a life-long Darien resident.

Charles (Trip) Hoffman, Founder, is Director of the Brokerage Services Group at the Stamford office of Cushman & Wakefield. He has 20 years of commercial real estate experience specializing in corporate and industrial leasing and investment sales in Fairfield and Westchester Counties. Prior to joining Cushman & Wakefield in 1997, Mr. Hoffman spent 13 years at Pierson & Smith Commercial Real Estate. He was previously employed by the Bristol-Myers Squibb Company. Mr. Hoffman is a former Director of the Wee Burn Country Club in Darien and is actively involved in a number of club committees. He is a member of the Real Estate Finance Association. Mr. Hoffman grew up in Darien and now resides in New Canaan.

Thomas M. Joyce, Founder, is Chairman, Chief Executive officer and a Director of Knight Capital Group. He is a recognized leader in the equity trading industry with experience in domestic and international equities markets, equity market trading, regulatory reform, trading technology and client service. Previously, Mr. Joyce spent more than a decade managing major equity businesses for Merrill Lynch & Co., where he was Head of Global Equity eCommerce, Head of U.S. Equities, and Head of European Equities. He joined Merrill Lynch as a block trader in 1987 and was promoted to Head of U.S. Block Trading in 1992. Mr. Joyce began his career as a retail stockbroker and later managed a small hedge fund. He is a member of the Securities Industry Association’s Board of Directors and is a former member of the NASDAQ Board. Mr. Joyce has also been a member of the Archipelago Board of Directors, served as Chairman of Nasdaq’s Quality of Markets Committee, and is a former member of NYSE’s Market Performance Committee. He is a resident of Darien.

Terry Laughren, Director, is a media, advertising, and marketing executive with experience in senior level positions at Procter & Gamble, International Playtex, Mattel, J. Walter Thompson, and E. & J. Gallo. Mr. Laughren was President and an owner of a private equity media investment firm whose portfolio included Screenvision Cinema Network, the only company offering advertisers coast-to-coast exposure in movie theatres. During the 1980’s he actively ran the company as President, Chairman and CEO. Mr. Laughren was Chairman of the Boston University National Alumni Council. A former member of the Young Presidents organization, he is listed in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in Finance and Industry. Mr. Laughren is a Darien resident.

John B. Lowe, Jr., Director, is the principal of John B. Lowe Associates, a financial and management consulting firm that works with major financial institutions around the world. Mr. Lowe has extensive bank experience in asset/liability, tax, regulatory compliance and operations management. He is a former Executive Vice President and Senior Financial Officer of European American Bank, serving on the company’s executive management team. In this position, he had oversight for finance and operations; asset and investment management; and the bank’s mergers and acquisitions activities. A CPA in Connecticut and New York, Mr. Lowe is the former President of the Columbia University Graduate School of Business Alumni Association and the recipient of its award for “Conspicuous Alumni Service”. Mr. Lowe is a resident of Greenwich.

Michael Madigan, Director, is Principal and Founder of Sound Financial Management, LLC, an investment management firm in Rowayton offering comprehensive financial planning and tax services. He was previously Chief Financial Officer, Executive Vice President and a member of the board of Dorr-Oliver Inc., an engineering services and equipment company with nine foreign subsidiaries. Mr. Madigan was also Principal and Founder of Restoration Properties, LLC, a real estate development company specializing in the purchase and remodeling of historic Victorian homes in Fairfield County and Washington, DC.   He is a resident of Rowayton.

Peter Maglathlin, Founder, is CEO of MBI, a privately held company that is a leading mail order provider specializing in collectibles, home décor and giftware. Mr. Maglathlin has been employed at MBI since 1982. Active in Darien civic activities, he is President of the board of directors of the Darien YMCA; is a member of the board of directors of the Darien United Way; and is Chairman of the Darien High School Building Committee. Mr. Maglathlin has been a resident of Darien for more than 20 years.

Frank J. Mancini, Director, is a Senior Credit Analyst of Whitecap Advisors in Norwalk, Connecticut. He has lengthy experience as an asset based lender dealing with micro cap sub prime credits. He was previously employed by UBS Investment Bank as a controller in their

Fixed Income unit and prior to that by General Electric Commercial Finance. He lives in Norwalk with his wife Michelle and 4 young sons.

Spencer J. McIlmurray, Founder, is a Darien resident, is currently employed as a Vice President and Executive Partner with Gartner, Incorporated, a Stamford-based company that provides research and consulting services to information systems organizations and vendors worldwide.  In his current role, Mr. McIlmurray provides direct counsel to senior executives on the effective use of technology to support strategic goal attainment and enhance day-to-day operations performance.  He has served as a trustee at King & Low-Heywood Thomas School in Stamford and also was a member of the President’s Advisory Council at Norwalk Community College which successfully established the William H. Schwab Center for Information Technology at the school.  Mr. McIlmurray holds a baccalaureate degree from Boston College, a master of business administration (MBA) degree from Cornell University, and a doctoral degree from Columbia University.

George A. Reilly, Director, is a partner in the law firm of Rucci, Burnham, Carta, Carello & Reilly, LLP. Mr. Reilly’s practice is concentrated in the areas of family law, real estate and estate planning. He received the Pro Bono Award from the Connecticut Bar Association in recognition of his commitment to legal services for those unable to afford them. Mr. Reilly has been a member of the executive committee of the board of the Darien United Way and chairman of the Darien United Way Campaign. He served as a trustee of his high school alma mater, King & Low-Heywood Thomas School in Stamford for 10 years including seven as its board President. Mr. Reilly was an elected member of the Darien Board of Selectmen from 1999–2001 and has been an elected member of the Darien Board of Education from 2001 to date. He is a native of Darien.

Joseph J. Rucci, Jr., Founder, is founder and managing partner of the law firm Rucci, Burnham, Carta, Carello & Reilly, LLP. Mr. Rucci has been instrumental in the development of a number of entrepreneurial businesses, including commercial banks. He served as chairman of the organizing committee of the New Canaan Bank & Trust Company and then as a director and counsel to that Bank. Mr. Rucci was counsel to the organization of the Bank of Darien and was co-chairman of the organizing committee, a director and secretary to the Bank of New Canaan. He is a former director of Summit Bank (CT) and served on that Bank’s Trust Committee. Mr. Rucci is a director and member of the Executive Committee and serves as counsel to the AmeriCares Foundation, Inc. He is a director of the Pear Tree Point School Foundation, Inc. and an advisory trustee of Fairfield University. Mr. Rucci lives in New Canaan.

Douglas Traver, Director, is a banker with over 25 years of experience at J.P. Morgan in New York. At J.P. Morgan, he held a number of management and client coverage positions in the investment bank. Most recently, Mr. Traver was Managing Director and Co-head of the Syndicated and Leveraged Finance Group. Prior to that, he was Co-Chairman of the Financial Sponsor Group and had senior investment banking coverage responsibility for a number of private equity firms. Mr. Traver has participated in a number of Darien community activities including coaching teams in the YMCA Basketball league and the Darien Little League. He is a Darien resident.

Harriette Weiss-Terbell, Founder, is the founder of Terbell Partners, Ltd. (“TPL”), which partners with global investors and clients in transactions that require operating improvements, business model redesign, strategic repositioning, and executive talent search. Prior to founding TPL, she was a partner for 15 years with The Hay Group, as well as an officer at Fleet Financial. Ms. Terbell is also a general partner in Alsacia Venture Investments, a venture capital fund and serves on the boards of Sentek, Inc., Jumpstart, and MAMM Media. Active in civic activities, she has chaired for several years the Annual Fund for the Fairfield Country Day School and served on the Steering Committee for its Capital Campaign. Currently, Ms. Terbell is an Annual Fund volunteer for The Hotchkiss School. She is a resident of Westport.

Gina Zangrillo, Director, is Vice President and General Manager of The Darien Sport Shop, a 57-year old, privately held, specialty department store that focuses on quality products and personal customer service. Since Ms. Zangrillo joined the company in 1994, new product lines have been introduced and sales have tripled. Ms. Zangrillo was previously a Senior Account Representative at MCI Telecommunications. Currently, she is First Vice President of the Darien Chamber of Commerce. She was chosen as the Chamber’s Volunteer of the Year in 1997, 2000 and 2003, in recognition of her leadership across the organization, including serving as chairperson of the Annual Beach Party, Family Fun Day, and the Christmas Tree Lighting Program. Ms. Zangrillo is also a member of the Stamford Chamber of Commerce. She grew up in Darien and now resides in New Canaan.
